The People’s Bank of Zanzibar Limited (PBZ) was established in June 30, 1966 under Cap.153 of the Zanzibar Companies Decree. The primary function was to carry on the business of commercial banking activities in all of its branches and Departments within Tanzania.

The Bank is currently offering Conventional and Islamic banking services in her branches in Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam and Mtwara, with power to receive deposits, invest, lend money and other related commercial banking.

The Bank is currently undertaking expansion of her services therefore automatically demand the human capital with suitable skills and qualification to fill the following vacant posts:

1.0 POST:  BANK OFFICER

DUTY STATION:          Mtwara Branches (Conventional/Islamic)               –           4 Posts

DUTY STATION:          Pemba Branches (Conventional/Islamic)                 –           4 Posts

Successful candidates will be responsible to achieve branch targets on all parameters and provide first class Banking service in all areas of the bank’s business in order to enhance profitable operations of the branch

(a)   Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competency:

  1. Degree in Banking, Islamic Banking, Commerce, Economics, Social Works, Marketing, Business Administration, Business Information Technology, Accounting or equivalent qualifications.
  2. Professional qualifications such as CPA, CPB and equivalent shall be added advantage
  3. Computer literacy and applications in windows, and other packages shall be considered.
  4. Some experience at bank branch operations would be desirable.
  5. Knowledge and experience in Islamic banking will be an added advantage.
  6. Interpersonal skills to create and maintain relevant business networks
  7. Smart and presentable individual
  8. Knowledge and effective application of PBZ policies, procedures and regulatory guidelines to consistently achieve required compliance standards
  9. Strong communication (writing and presentation) in English and Kiswahili
  10. Able to work independently and efficiently
  11. Age limit of forty (40) years as at 31st December, 2018

(b)     Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Attend to customers’ queries courteously and promptly
  2. Authenticate the genuineness of customers before making payments.
  3. Receive cash and verify the amount and genuineness of notes received in the presence of the customer before posting.
  4. Balance cash account after day’s work.
  5. Pay cash to the right customers within the authorized limit.
  6. Perform teller’s duties with speed and accuracy.
  7. Surrender cash in hand to the custodians after closure of business.
  8. Prompt filing of documents for reference
  9. Call day’s work in order to authenticate previous work transactions.
  10. Authenticate the genuineness of instruments presented before making payments.
  11. Ensure all payments are made in accordance with the Bank’s financial regulations.
  12. Verify customer signatures and check photo identification when handling withdrawals to ensure that they are valid and there is no breach of security.
  13. Ensure that the balance of money in the drawer is accurate and accounted for.
  14. Provide information to clients on banking services in order to promote customer services.
  15. Make sure that source documents used by customers on daily operations are available before start of day.
  16. Perform teller duties with speed and accuracy.
  17. Carry out any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

2.0 POST:  BANK OFFICER

DUTY STATION:          Islamic Banking Head office – Mpirani                      –           2 Posts

(a)   Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competency:

  1. Degree in Banking, Islamic Banking, Commerce, Economics, Social Works, Marketing, Business Administration, Business Information Technology, Accounting or equivalent qualifications.
  2. Professional qualifications such as CPA, CPB and equivalent shall be added advantage
  3. Computer literacy and applications in windows, and other packages shall be considered.
  4. Some experience at bank branch operations would be desirable.
  5. Knowledge and experience in Islamic banking will be an added advantage.

(b)     Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Financing Analysis
  2. Financing Approval
  3. Financing Documentation
  4. Perform Monitoring and evaluation of financing facilities before disbursement
  5. Follow-up of Financing Facilities
  6. Preliminary Recovery of Financing Facilities
  7. Recovery Documentation
  8. Perform Monitoring and evaluation of recovery process
  9. Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

3.0 POST:  OFFICE ATTENDANTS

DUTY STATION:          PBZ Head office – Mpirani                 –           2 Posts

(a)   Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competency:

  1. Certificate of Secondary Education (Form IV) or equivalent with minimum of division IV
  2. JKU or National Service Certificate from JKT or equivalent
  3. Experience of working with Banks and/or any reputable Security Company within Tanzania with guarding experience to highly risk locations such as Banks, Embassies, Cash in Transit Motor vehicles or equivalent shall be added advantage
  4. Holder of driving license in Class D shall be added advantage
  5. Smart and presentable individual
  6. Strong communication (writing and presentation) in English and Kiswahili
  7. Age limit of forty (40) years as at 31st December, 2018

(b)     Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure Cleanliness of Bank premises and its surroundings
  2. Collect and dispatch messages as may be directed
  3. To assist in supply of drinks and food for other employees as may be directed
  4. To assist in photocopying and binding of Bank documents as may be directed
  5. Guide customers to respective destinations in the Bank offices
  6. Collect incoming and sent outgoing mails to and from the Post Office
  7. File Bank documents in the respective files
  8. Distribute mails, files, and messages to various locations within and outside the bank premises
  9. Carry and distribute Bank luggage and parcels to various locations within and outside the Bank premises as may be directed
  10. Escort the Cash in Transit motor vehicle as may be directed
  11. Open and lock doors of the bank premises before and after closure of business
  12. Monitor the guests and guest registers as may be directed
  13. Ensure clean and required utensils are always available for use by officers
  14. Ensure all utensils, flasks, electric kettles, etc, are securely kept
  15. Ensure the safety of the Bank premises and facilities throughout the time
  16. Perform any other duties, as may be assigned by the supervisor

4.0 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTThree (3) years contract (Renewable)

5.0 REMUNERATION

Attractive salary with PBZ Scales/Grades will be offered to the selected candidate together with incentive packages as per PBZ Staff regulations.
